Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you started Pepper Your Talk
I landed a role at Burberry right after graduation and thought it was the best thing ever! In a way it was, but I realised that I was a lot less prepared for the demands of working in fashion than I thought. Fast forward a few years later, many lessons learnt and a lot of bravery, I set up a platform to support young fashion creatives through the transition.
You have also recently launched The Junior Network; can you tell us a little more about it and how the idea came about?
The Junior Network is exactly what I needed as an entry-level employee! It’s a club for girls and guys who are right at the beginning of their career but desire to climb to the top. Everyone in the club will work in fashion and have less than 4 years of experience, so it’s a great way to network first and foremost among their peers. It’s also a way for our Juniors to connect to the top of the industry, in a really relaxed and non-judgemental environment! We want to boost confidence, build networks and offer valuable industry information, all in one place.
Name one thing most people don’t know about you.
My mum thought I was going to be a boy, so she had no girls names picked out. Unluckily for her, I turned out to be a girl and that wasn’t what she wanted, so she just picked my name out of a magazine and here I am today with a name I love HA!
How would you describe your style?
I literally don’t know! Take a look at my Instagram (@diorrichnconnected) and you tell me!
Where do you shop for clothes and accessories on a normal basis?
So boring to say, but Zara (a lot!). I’m really into the idea of building a staple wardrobe so I’ll be trying to do a lot less high-street and invest in some great pieces.
What’s the go-to fashion item in your wardrobe that never fails to complete your outfit?
A bra! Hahaha – my life would be a disaster without one. Second item would be my Burberry leather jacket.
If you were given £1m to spend on clothes/accessories, what luxury stores would you splurge that cash on?
I really love Harvey Nicholas because it always felt like a big house to me and a little more exclusive. It’s a bit of an ‘if you know, you know’ type of department store.
What item clothing would you not be caught dead wearing?
A band tee or perspex shoes. I either love a trend or hate it and those are two I wasn’t really feeling.
Where do you look for style inspiration?
I never thought I looked to bloggers until I noticed how much I’d click on Instagram when I need inspiration.
If you had to own one person’s wardrobe, whose would it be, and why?
It’ll probably be one of the girls on Instagram I follow that I have under 2k followers! So underrated but so stylish. I almost don’t even want say who they are because they’re my style secret AHA!
You have an unlimited budget to host your dream party and you can invite anyone in the world. Except friends and family, who would be your top 3 on that guest list and why?
Carmen Busquet, because she’s such a G and seems too human! I love that.
Maybe Chimamanda because I feel like people push the feminist agenda but in such tainted ways! I want her to give me the real……
Sophia Amoruso (aka Girl Boss) because she’s been through some tough times recently and I’m sure she needs a drink and a laugh! No convo’s about work.
What luxury items are you currently lusting after right now?
I really want a classic Chanel bag with all black hardware because it’s so understated but the shape itself is iconic! You can’t find it anywhere.
Finally, what is the most exciting thing for you about the Cashmere App?
I love watching money grow and if I get a designer item at the end of it, what’s not to love! It’s the best of both worlds.
